CADSTREAM is a computer-aided-detection (CAD) system to assist radiologists in distinguishing benign from malignant breast lesions in gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) images. The CAD system uses reader interpretations and computer analysis to generate numeric and visualization aids to help the radiologist make more informed decisions.

The CAD system in conjunction with the MRI examination allows the radiologist to detect more lesions and more accurately determine the size of the lesions. Overall, the CAD system is allowing radiologists and clinicians to have more confidence in the ability to evaluate breast MRI.

What is CAD?
Computer-aided detection (CAD) refers to sophisticated pattern recognition software radiologists use to help them read medical images. This software identifies features on medical images and brings them to the attention of the radiologist in order to decrease false negative readings. It does not replace the imaging technology; rather it is an interpretive aid to be used during image review. CAD increases clinical confidence by providing a second computerization read of the images to identify suspicious areas for further review. Today, mammography CAD has been joined by CAD for breast MRI to increase accuracy and save time in making diagnoses.
